Your Ultimate Tyre Information Guide
Everything you need to know about tyres, from sharing your location to understanding when to replace them.
How to Share Your Location
Open WhatsApp, select the chat, and tap the attachment icon. Choose "Location" and send your current position.
Google Maps
Open Google Maps, tap the blue dot representing your location, and select "Share your location."
Apple Maps
Open Apple Maps, tap the "i" button, and select "Share My Location."
How to Identify Your Tyre Size
Your tyre size is printed on the sidewall. Look for a combination of numbers and letters like 205/55R16.
- 205 = Tyre width in millimetres
- 55 = Aspect ratio (height as a percentage of width)
- R16 = Rim diameter in inches
Locking Wheel Nuts: What You Need to Know
Locking wheel nuts are essential for preventing theft. Make sure you:
- Keep the locking wheel nut key in a safe place (usually in the glove box or with the spare tyre).
- Check that the key matches your wheel nuts before calling for assistance.
- Consider getting a spare key to avoid being stranded.
Legal Limits & When to Change Tyres
The UK legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm. However, for safety, we recommend replacing tyres when they reach 3mm.
- Use the 20p test: Insert a 20p coin into the tread. If the outer band is visible, your tread is below the legal limit.
- Check for cracks, bulges, or other damage on the sidewall.
- Replace tyres every 5-6 years, regardless of tread depth.
Other Useful Tyre Information
Tyre Pressure
Check your tyre pressure monthly using a pressure gauge. Refer to your vehicle’s manual for the correct PSI.
Seasonal Tyres
Consider using winter tyres in colder months for better grip and all-season tyres for year-round performance.
Spare Tyres
Always check your spare tyre’s condition and pressure. Don’t wait for an emergency to find out it’s flat.
